Most calculators check six houses and call it a day — which flags about nine people in ten. This one computes your real chart, then applies the classical exceptions that most of them ignore.
The rule is simple: Mars in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house. That is six houses out of twelve — a coin flip. Run the same check from your rising sign, your Moon and Venus, as most calculators do, and the odds of being flagged from at least one of them rise to roughly nine in ten.
So a tool that stops at the rule is not identifying a rare affliction. It is telling almost everyone who visits that they carry a defect that will harm their marriage — and in a country where this belief still calls off engagements, that is not a harmless piece of content.
Classical Jyotish knew this, which is why the literature on cancellation is larger than the rule itself. Mars in its own sign is at home and has little reason to cause harm. Jupiter’s aspect is the oldest recognised remedy there is. The affliction is held to settle once Mars matures, at 28. This calculator checks each of those and shows you which ones your chart actually satisfies — with the reason, because “you are fine” is worth nothing without one.
It also weights the references the way the tradition does. Your lagna comes first, your Moon second, and Venus is a South Indian supplement rather than an equal third — so a Venus-only hit is reported honestly instead of being counted as a diagnosis.

The classical exceptions (bhanga) include: Mars in its own sign, Aries or Scorpio; Mars exalted in Capricorn; Jupiter aspecting or sitting with Mars; Mars in the 2nd house when that house falls in Mercury’s signs, Gemini or Virgo; and the affliction weakening after Mars matures at the age of 28. Yes, and most do. A one-sided dosha is the situation the classical texts discuss, but it is one factor in a full compatibility reading, not a verdict on it. It matters here more than almost anywhere. Your lagna, the rising sign, is the primary reference this dosha is counted from, and the lagna changes roughly every two hours. Without a time we compute the check from your Moon and Venus and say plainly that the answer is partial, rather than returning a confident verdict built on two thirds of the inputs.
