How the deck is built

A tarot deck is 78 cards in two unequal halves. The 22 Major Arcana are the named trumps — The Fool, Death, The Tower — and they speak to the large movements of a life: identity, fate, upheaval, arrival. The 56 Minor Arcana divide into four suits of fourteen — Wands, Cups, Swords and Pentacles — and they speak to the everyday texture those movements pass through: work, love, thought and money. Each suit runs Ace to Ten and then through four court cards — Page, Knight, Queen, King — which read as people, or as postures a person is taking.

Upright and reversed

Every card here is explained both ways, because a reversal is not a bad version of a good card. A reversed card is the same energy blocked, turned inward, or overdone — reversed Strength is not weakness but force applied where patience was needed; the reversed Tower is the collapse you can still choose to make orderly. Some readers ignore reversals entirely, which is a legitimate school; the meanings on each card's page work either way.

How to use this directory

Each card links to a full page with its upright and reversed meanings across love, career, money and spirit, plus its key symbols. Definitions are the vocabulary — a reading is a sentence. A card's meaning bends toward the position it lands in and the question it was asked, which is why the same card can comfort one person and warn another.

Major Arcana

The 22 numbered trumps, from The Fool at 0 to The World at 21. Read in order they trace one arc — innocence, first power, love, crisis, descent, renewal, completion — which is why readers call the sequence the Fool's Journey. In a spread a Major card marks the part of the question that is bigger than day-to-day choice: a chapter turning, not an errand.

Minor Arcana — Wands

The suit of fire: will, work, ambition, creative drive — the part of life where you act first and feel later. Ace through Ten trace a project from first spark to heavy completion; the four court cards (Page, Knight, Queen, King) are the temperaments that carry it.

Minor Arcana — Cups

The suit of water: emotion, relationships, intuition, what the heart is actually doing underneath what the calendar says. Cups questions are love questions more often than not — but the suit also covers friendship, grief, creative feeling and the inner life.

Minor Arcana — Swords

The suit of air: thought, words, conflict, and the truths that cut. The hardest images in the deck live here — the Three's pierced heart, the Ten face-down — because the mind is where life does most of its fighting. A Swords-heavy spread is about clarity, not catastrophe.

Minor Arcana — Pentacles

The suit of earth: money, work, body, home — value you can hold. Slowest of the four suits on purpose: material things compound rather than strike. Career and finance questions usually resolve here.
